Ibadan, Feb. 19, 2024 – Some residents in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday, took to the streets to protest against the rising prices of food items and other essential goods.
The protest, which was peaceful, started around Mokola and spread to adjoining streets, causing traffic disruption around Mokola Under-bridge and Queen Elizabeth Road.
The protesters carried placards with different inscriptions in protest against the rising cost of foods caused by economic policies of the current administration.
Some police officers were seeing directing traffic flow and guarding protesters from destroying properties and other unruly behaviours.
The protests in Ibadan followed those of Minna, Suleja, Ilorin and other parts of the country through which Nigerians vented their anger against econonomic policies of government
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a two-day nationwide mass protest scheduled for February 27 and Feb. 28. (GBN)
