FG distributes subsidies inputs to 6,000 wheat farmers in kano

Kano, Dec. 19, 2024 – The federal government is distributing subsidised inputs to about 6,000 wheat farmers in Kano State.

Abubakar Kyari, the minister of Agriculture and Food Security, said this on Thursday at the commencement of the distribution exercise in Alkamawa village in the Bunkure Local Government Area.

He said the programme, which is under the Federal Government’s special programme on wheat production, is expected to boost wheat production.

The minister, who was represented by Isa Hotoro, the State Coordinator, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said the government gave the inputs to the farmers at 75 per cent subsidy.

“The Federal Government gave the inputs at 75 per cent subsidy, while the farmers will pay the balance of 25 per cent.

“Each farmer will collect three bags of fertilizer and one bag of 50kg wheat seeds at the cost of N111,000, which represents 25 per cent of the total cost,” he said.

The minister said the farmers were expected to cultivate 3,000 hectares of farmlands in 12 special clusters inAlkamawa in Bunkure, Ajingi and Gaya local government areas. 

He said each of the farmers was expected to cultivate 0.5 hectares in the 12 special clusters in Alkamawa, Ajingi and Gaya Local Government Areas of the state.
