Abuja, May 9, 2023 – The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing generated more than N13 trillion into the coffer of Federal Government between January 2015 and March 2023.
Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, said this on Monday in Abuja while presenting his scorecard tittled ‘Tour of Duty as HM of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: A Time and Economic Resource Report (2015-2023)”.
He said the various works and housing projects, which witnessed the engagement of 383,431 personnel to deliver 9,290.34 roads translated to a huge boost to the economy.
He said these were facilitated by 168 memos advanced by the Federal Government led by the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) for the delivery of roads and Houses in the last four year spanning 2019 – 2023.
Fashola said that from all the projects carried out, the ministry had been able to generate about 412,991,000 jobs in the works and housing sector.
He said, the ministry came to meet a budget of 18 billion when he came into the ministry, but that was increased by the President to 224 billion in the first year of his administration.
The minister said that over 6,000 Certificates of Ownership were issued, adding that a total of 826 programmes and projects were carried-out in the power sector.
He said that about 9,290 kilometres of roads were constructed between 2019 and 2022 and about 2,270,319 linear metres of lane were marked, including about 254,690 installed road signs.
Fashola said about 2,870 housing units had been successfully delivered in the 35 states and Federal Capital Territory, while housing projects that had been undertaken, but were yet to be completed were 6,068.
Fashola said another major feat recorded by the ministry in the eight years was the digitization of the land registry which witnessed the uploading of over 50,000 files.
He said the ministry scanned 50,000 files, translating to 2,478,400 pages of documents and “that is now live and ready to go.”
“So that I will not be carrying those Ghana must go bags to my house every weekend for signing.
“Our successor, whoever those maybe, will gain largely for it.
“Again, that will improve the transaction time, some of the things that used to take three months to process can now happen in 24hrs, the minister said.
Fashola said these actions would greatly improve the economy through time efficiency.
“Again subject, that to multidimensional poverty index, subject that to improve the human condition and subject that to the three-way test and see if it passes that test,” he said. (GBN)
