Abuja, Jan. 22, 2024 – The Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the N800 billion budget for 2024 passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly in December.
The budget was passed within days of its presentation by Gov. Siminalaye Fubara by four out of the 31members of the house.
This development was due to the division of the assembly as 27 members had decamped to the All Progressives Congress, an opposition party,
Fubara signed the appropriation bill immediately it was passed by the four members.
James Omotosho, the Presiding Judge, ruled that the passage of the bill by four members was illegal and had rendered the document null and void.
The court also directed that Martin Amaewhule, be recognized as the appropriate Speaker of the House. (GBN)
