Abuja, Nov. 22, 2023 – A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted N300 million bail to Godwin Emefiele, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Emefiele was accused by the Federal Government of using his office to confer undue corrupt advantage over one of the employees of the bank contrary to Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
While ruling on the bail application, Justice Hamza Muazu held that Emefiele be granted N300 million bail.
He, however, directed that the former CBN governor should produce two sureties who must have landed property in the Maitama District of the FCT.
Muazu said the sureties must present the property’s certificate of occupancy (C of O) in court for the purpose of verification.
He ordered Emefiele to deposit all his travel documents with the court and must obtain the court’s permission before travelling outside the country. (GBN)
