Abuja, Feb. 13, 2024 – Boss Mustapha, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on Tuesday said the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari was forged to withdraw $6.23 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023.
Mustapha made the allegation while testifying in the trial of Godwin Emefiele, a former Governor of the CBN.
He said he knew nothing about the withdrawal of the money for the payment of foreign election observers.
The former SGF said it was not the responsibility of the Federal Government nor the office of the SGF to request for funds from the CBN to pay foreign election observers.
He said this was solely the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deal with issues relating to election observers.
An official of the CBN, Michael Onyeka Ogbu, had told an High Court in Abuja on Monday that the amount was given out in cash to an official from the office of the SGF, named Jibril Abubakar, following approvals by President Buhari and CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele following a request by the SGF.
