Lagos, Nov. 21,2023 – In a bid to share inter-state knowledge on emergency management, the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency Team is in Lagos on a three-day field visit.
The three-day visit, which commenced on Monday, Nov. 20 to end on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, is to enable the Akwa Ibom team, understudy the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
During the welcome tour at the LASEMA Control Centre in Alausa, the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said cases of casualty in Lagos emergencies had reduced drastically due to the investment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu’s administration in rescue operations.
Oke-Osanyintolu attributed the successes recorded by the Lagos Emergency Management Agency to the collaboration of all first responders in the state.
He listed the first responders to include LASTMA, Fire service, RRS and Ambulance service, urged the Akwa Ibom team to replicate the Lagos State emergency management arrangement at home.
Olatunde Akinsanya, the Director of Operations and Maintenance in the Agency, gave an overview of LASEMA’s operations.
He said the Agency was operating in two key strategic levels with offices located in three Senatorial districts of the state for swift and efficient response response.
Mr John Isangedighi, the Akwa Ibom Emergency Team lead, said the choice of Lagos to understudy LASEMA was due to the success stories and being the best emergency agency nationwide.
Isangedighi said that Akwa Ibom did not have a functional emergency management system,but said that the Gov. Bassey Eno’s administration would ensure that knowledge gained from LASEMA would be conceptualised and replicated in Akwa Ibom State.
The delegates were taken on tour of the Agency’s state-of-the-art facilities at the Relief/Resettlement Centre, LASU-Igando Road, Igando and the equipment hub of the Agency, Cappa Base, Oshodi. (GBN)
