Lagos, Dec. 14, 2023 – Jumia Technologies is to stop its food delivery business in Nigeria by the end of this year to give more attention to its main business.
The company, an e-commerce platform, said this in a statement on Thursday.
Francis Dufay, its Chief Executive, said the decision was taken to boost profitability of the company’s physical products business.
“The more we concentrate on our physical goods sector, the more we see Jumia has enormous growth potential and a clear route to profitability.
“We have to focus on our physical goods business, the more we realize that there is huge potential for Jumia to grow, with a path to profitability.
“The development will also decrease Jumia Food’s workforce, with some staff moving to the company’s core physical goods division.”
The company is also to close the food delivery services in Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Uganda, and Algeria by the end of December 2023.
