Abuja, Nov. 23, 2023 – Nigerian troops recovered about 578,900 litres of stolen crude oil last week.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defense Media Operations, said this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
He said the troops of Operation Delta Safe achieved the feat.
Buba said they recovered about 578,900 litres of crude oil, along with 454,330 litres of illegally refined diesel and 10,000 litres of dual-purpose kerosene.
All the recoveries were made in the Niger Delta region.
Buba said the troops also destroyed 50 sites where illegal oil was being refined and arrested 51 people involved.
He said the troops killed four criminals and seized their weapons and ammunition.
They also demolished 245 pits used for illegal activities and destroyed 31 boats, 69 storage tanks, one tricycle, 23 vehicles, 162 cooking ovens, one pumping machine, and three outboard engines.
Buba said the efforts were to curb unlawful practices and maintain security in the area. (GBN)
