Abuja, Nov. 7, 2023 – Canada has suspended operations in its High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, until further notice.
The Canadian Government has also issued a travel advisory to its citizens to stop non-essential trips to Nigeria.
Notices on the closure of the high commission and the travel advosory are posted on the Canadian website.
It said the travel advisory was due to the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and the significant risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks and kidnappings.
The Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, was, however, silent about the closure of the high commission and the travel advisory in her terse her statement on X, mourning the victims of the explosion shortly after the incident.
“We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria.
“The fire is out and we are working to shed light on what caused this situation. I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 2 people killed in this tragedy,” she had said. (GBN)
