Monrovia, Oct. 25, 2023 – Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) on Tuesday announced the final results of the presidential and legislative vote, showing a record high turn-out of 78.88%, with run-off fixed for 14 November.
Some 1.95 million of the 2.47million registered voters cast their ballots in the tight contest.
For the run-off, the two frontrunners, President George Weah of (CDC), who got 804,087 votes or 43.83%, will battle former vice-President Joseph Boakai of (UP), who got 796,961 or 43.44%.
Campaigns will end midnight of Nov. 12, 2023..
Weah defeated Boakai of then ruling UP by 68% to 38% of the votes in the 2017 run-off.
But given the political realignments, Boakai could snatch victory this time round. (GBN)
