Abuja, Oct. 15, 2023 – Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, is to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum holding in Beijing, China, from Oct. 16 to Oct. 18.
He is expected to leave Abuja for Bejing on Sunday.
The vice president will be joining world leaders from over 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America at the Forum.
The theme of this year’s Forum is “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”
This year’s edition will mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) championed by the President of China, Xi Jinping, as an initiative for global infrastructure development strategy.
The Forum was initiated and launched by the government of the Peoples Republic of China in 2013,
Nigeria joined the Forum in 2018 when President Buhari signed the Belt and Road cooperation agreement with China.
Shettima will expectedly use the opportunity of the Forum to invite foreign investors to Nigeria.
His delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Alkali and the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
Others are the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite; the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, and the Director-General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Michael Ohiani. (GBN)
