Abuja, Aug. 2023 – The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has advised President Bola Tinubu and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) not to go to war with Niger Republic over the recent coup in the country.
The party gave the advice through a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its National Chairman, Alhaji Falalu Bello.
The party said it was PRP said it was confident that ECOWAS would resolve the issue at stake with the Niger Republic peacefully through dialogue.
It said the war option was “not in the interests of Nigeria, Niger and ECOWAS”.
PRP said that war could lead to the spread of violence and instability to other countries in the West African sub-region, thereby destabilizing Africa.
The party said it would be tragic if the relationships that existed between Niger and Nigeria for centuries were destroyed.
“A war would disrupt this economic interdependence and harm both countries.
“The PRP strongly urges President Tinubu, as the present ECOWAS Chairman, to painstakingly pursue dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the imbroglio in the Republic of Niger and to exercise restraint and avoid taking any action that could lead to war.”
The statement advised Tinubu to focus more on addressing the current challenges facing Nigerians like unemployment, insecurity and extreme poverty, among others.
