Abuja, July 31, 2023 -Nyesom Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State and ministerial nominee, has been confirmed as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Senate.
Wike, who appeared before the Senate for screening on Monday, was just asked to take a bow and go.
This was after a self-introduction by him and a pledge to work to transform the country if confirmed as a Minister.
Senator Mpigi Barinada, in supporting the nominee, said he, two other senators from Rivers and over five million people of Rivers were in support of his nomination.
“He is our best. He is our example. We three senators and over five million Rivers people are in total support of his nomination.
“I want to urge the Senate to ask him to take a bow and go,” Barinada said.
Many senators supported that he should take a bow and go when Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the question to voice vote.
He was then asked to take a bow, which he did and left the floor of the Senate.
Wike’s ministerial nomination has been controversial due to his members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the opposition parties.
His party’s National Working Committee is meeting today, Monday, to take a final decision on his membership of the party following many allegations of anti-party activities levelled against him. (GBN)
