Abuja, March 6, 2023 – Prominent members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday staged a protest march to the Maitama District head office of INEC to press home their demand for a review of the result of Feb, 25 Presidential Election.
The protesters, who were in black and carried placards with inscriptions like “This is election, not selection”, “INEC keep your promise”, and “Enough is enough”, disrupted traffic flow to the Maitama District office of INEC.
Abubakar Atiku, the PDP Presidential Candidate, led and was followed by PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal to the INEC office where they presented a letter of protest to the commission.
Their letter of protest was received by Mr Fesus Okoye, the National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education.
Atiku said that the party members and supporters would continue their daily protest, but promised that they would not allow the protest to disturb their court cases.
“We are protesting and we have every right to protest. It doesn’t stop us from going to court.
“We will protest for a very long time; either every day or every other day,” he said.
Other PDP members on the protest march were Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu: a former National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; PDP Spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan and Senator Dino Melaye, among others.
The PDP is protesting the result of the 2023 presidential election conducted on Feb. 25 which gave victory to Bola Tinubu, who scored 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku who came second with 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of Labour party, came third with 6,101,533 votes. (GBN)
