Nnewi, Feb. 22, 2023 – Barely three days to the general elections, a bagful of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was found in a forest in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The cards were reportedly found by hunters in Akamili and was later taken to the premises of a radio station, Authority FM.
A viral video in the compound of the station in Nnewi showed the PVCs displayed on the floor of the station,
A female staff of the radio station, who ran a short commentary on the video, claimed most of the cards belonged to people from Nnewi South Local Government Area.
She urged those yet to get their PVCs to visit the station to confirm if they could find theirs.
A station manager of Authority FM, Charles Ede, when contacted said he was off duty when the cards were brought, adding that his staff members have reported to him about the incident.
Spokesman for the State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command was constrained to make comments on the report since it had not received complaints from concerned authority.
“The command has not received any such complaint from the concerned authority, following the emergence of a video claiming that a hunter found some PVCs in a forest at Nnewi.
“Given the above, the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, has ordered investigations into the video to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and possibly arrest the suspects behind the act.
“Therefore, the command is constrained to make further comments and any development in this regard shall be communicated,” he said. (GBN)
