FG to stop salaries of ghost workers by March

Abuja, Feb. 18, 2026 – The Federal Government is to stop salaries of federal civil servants who failed to complete their verification and skills assessment from March 2026.

The exercise, which began in 2025, is part of efforts to reform the public service and was ordered by President Bola Tinubu in 2025.

Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, gave the directive in a memo addressed to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Tunji Olaopa.

The memo attributed the decision to the gradual conclusion of the Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis being carried out across the federal civil service.

According to the memo, the final mop-up verification will take place in Abuja from February 16 to February 27, 2026.

The exercise is to ensure that only qualified and properly placed workers remain in the system and to identify irregular names on the federal payroll.
