Abuja, Feb. 11, 2026 – Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, has commended President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the federal system of administration in Nigeria.
Bagudu made the commendation at the closing session of the National Economic Conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said Nigeria is now a more united federation due to the bold decisions the president.
The minister said the president’s economic reforms had increased funds for the sub-national governments to provide more amenities for their constituents.
He said that with reforms, the fiscal condition of states and local governments had improved, while the federal government bore the burden of the reforms.
Bagudu said the president has prioritised the interests of lower levels of government which also demonstrated his belief that true federalism recognises the potential of the lowest level of government.
He said this was the reason Tinubu approved the Renewed Hope Ward-based development programme, which aims to identify economic activities in the 8,809 wards of the federation and support their growth.
The minister said the president’s passionate interest in the NEC demonstrated his abiding faith in cooperative federalism, while his bipartisan approach to state affairs had softened divisions that caused friction between federal and subnational governments.
He said the president’s support to the NEC had fostered greater cooperation among the federal, state and local governments.
“In the NEC, state governors have been given opportunities to contribute to most of the reform measures, and commendably, most of them, regardless of party, believed the president was pursuing what the country needed and fully support the federal government,” the minister said.
