IMF projects 4.4% economic growth rate for Nigeria in 2026

Lagos, Jan. 20, 2026 – The IMF has projected that Nigeria’s economy will grow by 4.4% in 2026.

This is against the 4.2% economic growth rate projected for Nigeria by the world body in 2025

The projection is contained in contained in the revised IMF’s January 2026 update of the World Economic Outlook released on Monday.

The Fund said the upgrade of Nigeria’s outlook formed part of its wider evaluation of global economic conditions, which it expects to remain relatively stable in the coming years.

It said that the improved forecast aligned with gradual, but broad-based economic strengthening across Sub-Saharan Africa rather than an isolated revision.
