Abuja, Feb. 9, 2023 – Joe Ajaero, the newly elected President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has promised to work toward improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
Ajaero made the promise during his inauguration as president of NLC on Wednesday.
He said the union would work tirelessly to make Nigerian workers get commensurate benefits for their work.
Ajaero said the NLC would pursue a new national minimum wage that would take into consideration the objective realities of our socio-economy.
He said he would also work to create variables and thresholds for automatic adjustment of the nation’s wage floor to avoid unnecessary politicking and impunity by our employers and reduce the suffering of Nigerian workers.
“We are committed to resolutely pursuing the interests and desires of Nigerian workers and, by extension, the majority of Nigerian masses.
“We, therefore, pledge our loyalty to the NLC, Nigerian workers, Nigerian masses and Nigeria.
“Our comrades, our thoughts and our actions shall be propelled by this avowal,” he said.
Ajaero was the Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).
He has been NLC Deputy President since 2011.
Ajaero succeeds Ayuba Wabba whose tenure ended on Wednesday. (GBN)
