Ibadan, Jan. 13, 2026 – The federal government has intercepted seven trucks laden with lithium ore in Kwara State.
The trucks were intercepted on Friday by officials of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Department of State Services in Kwara State after intelligence information.
Ganiyu Ajibade, the Zonal Officer of the ministry in Ibadan, told journalists on Tuesday that the trucks were intercepted following intelligence information that 12 trucks laden with lithium ore were coming from a mining site in Saki, Oyo State
He said the intelligence report indicated the vehicles had left Saki at 11:30 p.m. on January 9 and were going towards Ilorin, Kwara State.
Ajibade said the seven trucks were apprehended between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. along the Okoolowo – Eyenkorin Expressway in Kwara State.
He said one of the drivers abandoned his vehicle and escape, while the others were taken into custody.
Ajibade said the drivers alleged that they were hired to transport the lithium ore to Abuja.
