Abuja, Nov. 6, 2025 – The Nigerian Railway Corporation is to unveil a new National Railway Development Roadmap to connect all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Kayode Opeifa, its Chief Executive, said this in Abuja on Wednesday at the Seventh National Transport Conference of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration.
According to a statement issued by Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Spokesman for the Nigeria Railwarporation, the development is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The Federal Government will soon unveil a comprehensive National Railway Development Roadmap that will ensure rail connectivity across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the roadmap is to enable all states have access to the national rail corridors at no additional cost following recent legislative amendments that moved railway development to the concurrent legislative list.
“The roadmap is designed to enable all states to access and utilise the national rail corridors at no extra cost,” he said.
Opeifa said Lagos and Plateau states were already taking advantage of this policy, while several others are encouraged to key into the initiative.”
“We are saying that where there is a national rail asset, states should make use of it. The line is available from Lagos to Kano.
“If your state is along this corridor, you can run services on the line. Lagos and Plateau are already doing this and we are open to working with others,” he said.
The NRC chief executive said Ogun and Oyo States had narrow and standard-gauge networks available for utilisation, while Edo, Delta, Kogi, Kaduna, Kano and Niger states could connect to existing routes.
