Abuja, July 13, 2025 – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted large consignments of drugs concealed in household items, microwaves and lipsticks at Lagos airports and across the country.
Femi Babafemi, the Spokesman for the NDLEA, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement said some of the drugs were being imported from Thailand.
It said its operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) uncovered 23 parcels of “loud”, a potent cannabis strain, weighing 11.3kg concealed in microwaves that arrived from Thailand via Ethiopia on July 7.
The statement said a suspect, Ezenwegbu Chike, has been arrested over the seizure.
It also said another 400 grams of cocaine with phenacetine (a cutting agent) was found built into female lipsticks in a consignment headed to Guinea.
The drugs were hidden among face powder and hair attachments.
It said a businessman, Ezeikwelume Prince Afam, was arrested in connection with the shipment at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.
It said the NDLEA achieved a major breakthrough with the arrest a drug kingpin, Okechukwu Izugha, alias Okey Omeogo, at his wife’s shop in Ijesha Market in Lagos on July 9.
It alleged that Izugha had gone into hiding following the seizure of 9kg of cocaine traced to him in August 2024, while his wife, Maureen Izugha, had earlier been convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for possession of 500 grams of cocaine.
The NDLEA operatives in Edo also destroyed over 28,000kg of skunk found on three farms spanning 11 hectares in Ewere-Uzebba forest, Owan West LGA where additional 82kg of processed cannabis.
It said some armed members of the drug cartel ambushed the operatives, riddling one of the NDLEA vehicles with bullets. No casualties were reported.
A 700 kg of compressed Ghana loud cannabis and a delivery truck were seized at Okun-Ajah Beach in Lagos.
Two suspects, Innocent Ejidiobo and Friday Paul, were arrested along Ajah-Epe expressway with 26 kg of loud, 123 grams of methamphetamine, 45 grams of Molly with a delivery van.
NDLEA operatives in Borno have also arrested Godwin Chimaobi Nwaobi with 18,759 ampoules of pentazocine and pills of tramadol and rohypnol on July 12.
Earlier, 10,000 tramadol pills had been seized from Abdulrahman Bello Ahmadu on July 9.
