Abuja, July 4, 2025 – A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Senate to recall the suspended Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the National Assembly.
Natasha, a senator representing Kogi Central, was suspended for six months by the leadership of the Senate over allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President.
Binta Nyako, the Presiding Judge, faulted the provisions of Chapter 8 of the Senate Standing Rules and Section 14 of the Legislative Houses, Powers & Privileges Act cited by the Senate.
She said the two laws failed to specify the maximum period that a serving lawmaker could be suspended from office.
Nyako said although the Senate had the power to punish any erring member, but such sanction must not be excessive.
She described the suspension as excessive and overreaching
