Abuja, May 22, 2022 – Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), has sought the partnership of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to block all areas of revenue leakages and shortages across the country.
He sought the partnership during a courtesy visit to Ola Olukoyede, the Chief Executive of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja on Wednesday
According to a statement issued by the EFCC, the accountant general said there were too many areas of revenue leakages across the country which must be blocked.
The AGF said it would be impossible to fully execute the 2025 federal budget without blocking the revenue leakages.
He requested the assistance of the EFCC to fund the 2025 budget and ensure a saner and sound financial system in Nigeria.
He said the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the EFCC shared common and mutually beneficial interests in financial matters and could not achieve better results without effective collaboration.
“Currently, the country is witnessing a lot in terms of revenue leakages and shortages, and so we believe that for us to be able to perform or achieve our mandate, we need your support and collaboration,” he said.
Ogunjimi also sought the EFCC’s support in tracing fraudulent transactions and blocking leakages to enable the government to fund the budget and pay salaries.
Responding, Olukoyede pledged the Commission’s commitment and support in blocking and stopping leakages in government agencies Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
“We want to pledge our commitment and support to ensure that we create a more stable and sound financial system in Nigeria.
“That is part of our mandate. We share a similar mandate, and it is also important for us to carry out our activities in the most accountable and transparent manner,” he said.
