FG approves new national policy on employment

Abuja, May 13, 2025 – The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new national policy on employment generation for the country.

FEC approved the new policy on Monday during its meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu

Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of Labour and Employment, announced the development while addressing State House correspondents after the meeting.

He said the revised National Policy on Employment, had been under review for six years and the updated framework was designed to reflect current economic realities and provide new strategies to address widespread unemployment and poverty across the country. 

The minister said the reviewed policy would create economic opportunities that promote productive employment for Nigerians. 

It aligns with our preparation for the upcoming International Labour Organization (ILO) meeting in Geneva, where we will proudly present our renewed employment framework.” the minister added.

Dingyadi said the updated employment policy was developed after extensive consultations and would be forwarded to key stakeholders for implementation.

He said the ministry decided to initiate the review of the policy and develop new strategies which will address challenges of unemployment and address poverty, create the economic opportunities for productive and employment of Nigerians.

“In the next two or three weeks, we are going to the International Labour Organization meeting in Geneva.

“We will be very proud to tell our colleagues in other parts of the world that we have been able to review the national employment policy,” the minister.
