Abuja, April, 3, 2025 – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has denied reports that it is introducing new N5,000 and N10,000 bank notes into circulation.
The apex bank made the disclaimer in a statement on Wednesday, describing the report as false.
In the statement, the CBN declared: “The content is not from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kindly note that the official website of the CBN is cbn.gov.ng,”
The fake report which appeared in the media space on Wednesday with the caption: “CBN Announces New N5,000, N10,000 banknotes”, read: “In a bid to reduce cash handling challenges, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced new N5,000 and N10,000 notes featuring iconic Nigerian leaders.”
The fake report attributed the report to Ibrahim Tahir, a fake Deputy Governor in the bank. (GBN)
