Maiduguri, Feb. 24, 2025 – The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food items to the less privileged people in the North-east for Ramadan.
Muhammed Umar, the NEDC State Coordinator in Borno, made the presentation to the office of the First Lady in Borno, Falmata Babagana-Zulum, for onward distribution to the affected households ahead of Ramadan.
The items were 3,000 bags of rice, 2,000 bags of sugar, 2,000 cartons of spaghetti and 2,000 gallons of vegetable oil.
Umar said the gesture was being extended to the downtrodden in the six states of the North-Eastern region for Ramadan.
He said the palliatives were hitherto distributed directly to the needy by the commission contrary to the new development.
“This time around, the first Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Remi Tinubu, had pleaded with the commission that this gesture should be extended to the wives of the state governors, and that was what necessitated the donation to governors’ wives in the region for onward distribution to the needy,” the coordinator said.
Responding, the governor’s wife, who was represented by Hauwa Mai Musa, the Special Adviser to Gov Zulum on Women Affairs, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the gesture and promised to deliver the items to the people of the state.
