Agency seals 19 cooking gas stations in Delta over safety concerns

Asaba, Feb. 5, 2025 – The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has sealed 19 cooking gas stations on Delta State over safety concerns.

Victor Ohwodiasa, the Delta State Coordinator of NMDPRA, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday.

He said the affected stations did not have licences and were located in unsafe locations.

Ohwodiasa said most of the sealed stations were in the Category D class of LPG operators, explaining that they were those within localities that refill gas from licenced gas plants for customers.

He stressed the affected stations were operating without prerequisite approvals and sited in unsafe locations in Warri, OgwashiUkwu and Orerokpe.

Ohwodiasa also alleged that some of them were found to have been ‘decanting’, which he said, meant that they were doing a bottle-to-bottle transfer of gas.

“During the operations, about 28 illegal outlets were spotted by the Authority. We tried to see if it is possible to have them regularised as they were wrongly sited,” he said.
