Death toll from Dikko petrol tanker explosion rises to 94

Suleja, Jan. 20, 2025 – Death toll from the petrol tanker explosion in Dikko, Niger State, has risen to 94 as the Idris Mohammed, the Minister of Information, said additional eight of the injured victims died on Sunday.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency had put the death toll at 86 in a statement issued on Sunday morning.

Mohammed said this on Sunday during a visit to the Suleja General Hospital where the injured were being treated.

He was with Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and some other officials of the federal government during the visit.

He said President Bola Tinubu was saddened by the incident and had ordered that some of the injured be transferred to tertiary hospitals.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply saddened by what has happened. He asked us to come here to see the situation.

‘’We have just gone round the wards and we have seen those that are very critically injured and as we were visiting, one of them passed on and we were told that that was the eighth victim of the fire explosion that passed on today.

“What we are seeing is a dire need of emergency medical attention, which the Federal Government is taking.’’

“The Minister of Health, the National Emergency Management Agency, and all agencies of government will ensure that all the hospitalised victims are immediately evacuated and taken to the Intensive Care Units of the immediate available tertiary institutions,” the minister said.
