Abuja, Sept. 25, 2024 – Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has directed an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The minister gave the directive on Wednesday following allegations of corruption levelled against some officials of the ministry during the incarceration of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, while in custody.
Bobrisky served a five-month imprisonment in the custodian service after he was found guilty of naira abuse charge.
in a video released by a blogger, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan. Bobrisky had alleged that he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop the money laundering charge preferred against him.
Babatunde Alao, the Minister’s Media Aide on Wednesday, said the minister condemned the alleged misconduct, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of indiscipline, unprofessionalism, and corruption within the paramilitary services under his Ministry.
“The Ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” Tunji-Ojo had said.
Alao said the minister has instituted a special investigative team headed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
He assured the public that the probe would be rigorous, transparent, and impartial, with appropriate disciplinary actions to be taken against any personnel found guilty.
