Lagos, Sept. 7, 2024 – Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has advised Africans to embrace unity while in the Diaspora.
She also urged Nigerians in the Diaspora with dual citizenship to keep in touch with home and always be proud of their Nigerian citizenship.
Dabiri-Erewa gave the advice when she received Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma Onwe Adetshina, at NIDCOM office in Lagos.
She said that Chidinma’s resilience given the circumstances surrounding her emergence as Miss Universe Nigeria, was admirable and represented the creative energies and belligerence of all Nigerians.
“If you have dual citizenship, don’t take the second one for granted. Nigeria has been there in this trying moment for you, but I am glad you are home.”
Chidinma Onwe Adetshina, said she was visibly impressed with the hospitality and warmth accorded her and thanked the Chairman/CEO, (NIDCOM).
“I am so honoured to be sitting in front of you and thank you for this beautiful reception.”
“I wear this crown with immense pride and I am committed to making Nigeria proud,” she said.
Chidinma Onwe Adetshina is to represent Nigeria at the Miss World 2024 in Mexico later in the year.
Guy Murray-Bruce, the organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant, said they were glad to have offered Chidinma the platform to contest.
Music legend D’Banj also commended Chidinma’s resilience and determination.
He entertained the crowd with a special performance for her.
Miss Chidimma Onwe Adetshina was forced to withdraw from Miss South African Beauty Pageant due to her dual nationality.
She was born in South Africa 23 years ago. (GBN)
