Abuja, July 23, 2024 – Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume has raised N40 million to resettle some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes in 10 communities in Gwoza Local Government area of Borno State.
The affected communities include Gwoza, Pulka, Limankara, Warabe, Ngoshe, Kirawa, Izge, Bitta, Hambagtha, Modube, and Yamtake villages.
Ndume, in a statement in Abuja, said villagers in other communities would also return to their ancestral homes soon.
Ndume led the other donors with N10 million, while his wife Hajiya Maryam, donated N3 million into a dedicated account of Gwoza Concerned Citizens (GCCs).
He was in Gwoza last weekend for house-to-house condolence of the families of those who lost their loved ones on June 29, 2024, through multiple suicide bombings.
The senator said he was very impressed with his people who displayed resilience and were busy working on their farmlands, while he spent some days in Gwoza town.
He said since peace was gradually returning to the area, Governor Babagana Zulum had not only resettled displaced people, but had also initiated monthly distribution of food and non-food items as palliatives.
He commended the state government for its efforts in the ongoing Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR) project, which had resulted in the resettlement of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes. (GBN)
