Abuja, July 17, 2024 – The Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the impeachment of Phillip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

The court presided over by Justice Omotosho ordered that Shaibu be reinstated as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

Justice Omotosho, in his judgement on Wednesday, held that the basis on which the Edo State House of Assembly impeached the deputy governor was untenable in law and did not constitute any gross misconduct.

He said the Assembly failed to comply with due process in impeaching Shaibu and set aside the appointment of the new deputy governor in the state.

Omotosho directed the Inspector General of Police to provide Shaibu with needed security to enable him perform the functions as deputy governor until the end of his tenure.
