Lagos, May 1, 2024 – The federal government is paying N2.75 billion compensation to property owners on the first phase of construction on Lagos-Calabar Highway.
Demolition of buildings along the route started on May 27.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday at a meeting with the affected landlords whose property were being demolished.
He said the payment was necessary for the construction of the first phase of the project from channel 0 to channel 3.
The minister said the payment was the first phase and other payments to land owners would be made as the project progresses.
The federal government, had earlier, established a compensation committee for Section 1 of the road project, whose membership was drawn from the federal ministry of works, Lagos State government, local communities and the various stakeholders.
The committee, headed by Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, handled the evaluation and assessment.
Hightech Construction company, the contractors, is responsible for the payment of the compensation.
According to the minister, the compensation will be based on federal government’s approved rates. (GBN)
