Abuja, Feb. 6, 2024 – Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) issued not less than 2,141,300 passports in 2023.
Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, Its Controller-General, said this on Tuesday during a virtual lecture s with the theme: “New passport policy/processes for Nigerians in the Diaspora confirmation”, organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
She said the increasing number of Nigerians wishing to travel abroad were responsible for the unprecedented increase in the number of passport applications.
Adeepoju said the NIS issued 1.3m passports in 2021 and 1.5m in 2022, an increase of 50 percent.
She said the reform of the passport process would reduce pressure on the overstretched facilities of NIS nationwide. (GBN)
