Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly resigns

Port Harcourt, Jan. 1, 2024 – Ehie, Ogerenye Edison, the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, has resigned from the appointment.

The Speaker, who has been a close ally of Rivers Gov. Siminilaye Fubara, did not give any reasons for his resignation.

According to a  copy of the the resignation letter, dated Dec. 29, 2023, the speaker just thanked his colleagues and members of his constituency for giving him the honour to serve.

His resignation is coming after the setlement of the rift between Fubara and the Nyessom Wike, a former governor of the state and Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the terms for the settlement of the rift is the reinstatement of the former speaker of the Assembly. (GBN)
