Akure, Dec. 28, 2023 – Three loyalists of Rotimi Akeredolu, the late Gov. of Ondo State, have resigned their appointments from Ondo State Government barely 24 hours after the assumption of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as new governor of the state.
These loyalists are Raimi Olayiwola Aminu, the state Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Adedoyin Odebowale, a Senior Special Assistant to Akeredolu, and Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu.
Aminu tendered his resignation on Thursday through a letter addressed to Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu.
He said his resignation was with immediate effect.
“I sincerely thank our dear Arakunrin and the good people of the State for the opportunity to serve in his cabinet as Senior Special Assistant on Lands & Infrastructure, Special Adviser on Lands, Works and Infrastructure and Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing,” Aminu said in the letter.
Adebowale, the Senior Special Assistant to Akeredolu, had resigned on Wednesday through a letter dated Dec. 27, 2023 and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government.
Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu, also resigned on Wednesday immediately Akerdolu’s death was announced.
“My decision to resign from office is hinged on the unfortunate and untimely death of our leader, principal and father figure, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON,” he had said in his resignation letter.
There are indications that many more loyalists of Akeredolu will resign their appointments from the state government due to the “bad blood” and deep-seated animosity within the state government and fear of reprisal actions. (GBN)
