32 missing after train attack at Edo train station

Benin, Jan. 8, 2023 – Thirty-two persons are reported missing after some gunmen abducted some passengers at train station in Igueben in Edo State on Saturday.

The missing persons include the Station Manager, Godwin Okpe, Head of Security, Ikhayere, the ticketing clerk and a resident, Victor Osarobho.

They were abducted at about 4.00 p.m. on sturday by suspected herdsmen at the train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the Spokesman for the Edo Police Command, said the abducted passengers were travelling to Warri in Delta State by train.

He said that many other persons sustained bullet wounds during the incident.

The abductors were said to be armed with AK-47 rifles and were shooting sporadically into the air.

Some of the abductors came in vehicles, while others got to the train station through bush paths. (GBN)
