Abeokuta, Feb. 19, 2023 – A middle-aged woman, Mama Dada, committed suicide at the weekend by setting herself ablaze in her rented apartment in Oke-Keesi in Itoko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
An eye-witness said that the woman was burnt beyond recognition, while the entire house was razed.
The eye-witness, who said he lived close to the scene of the incident, said that the woman took a loan from a microfinance bank, but could not repay the loan.
Michael Babawale, the Secretary of the Community Development Association in the area, confirmed the incident.
He said that the woman took her life because of N7000 loan she took from a bank.
Babawale said her remains had been deposited at the State General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
The Spokesman for the Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he had not been briefed about the incident. (GBN)
