Abuja, Aug. 16, 2024 – The United States has offered to support the Federal government on its solar power projects.
Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser, Strategic Communication and Media Relations, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
He said Richard Mills, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, confirmed the support in Abuja on Wednesday during a meeting with Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power,
“You have the support of the US government on the project,” the ambassador had said.
The envoy invited the minister to an upcoming energy summit in Washington from Sept.11 to Sept. 12, 2024,
He said the summit would focus on the electricity sector with working groups engaging in strategic dialogues.
Responding, Adelabu expressed the federal government’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of local industries by providing them with sufficient power to improve their operations.
He said that in spite of large population and market, the country had continued to import about 80 per cent of what it’s needs.
The project, which involves Sun Africa LLC, an American company, aims to deliver critical power infrastructure to Nigeria. (GBN)
