Transactions dipped on NGX last week

Lagos, Feb. 19, 2022 – A total of 1.559 billion shares worth N36.497 billion were traded in 42,546 deals on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) last week.

This was in contrast to the 2.478 billion shares valued at N47.856 billion exchanged hands in 54,982 deals in the preceding week.

The Financial Services Industry, measured by volume, led the activity chart with 1.127 billion shares valued at N18.908 billion traded in 19,424 deals.

The industry contributed 72.27% and 51.81% to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The Conglomerates Industry followed with 117.400 million shares worth N1.508 billion in 2,775 deals, while the third place was taken by the Consumer Goods Industry with a turnover of 98.422 million shares worth N4.008 billion in 6,322 deals.

Trading in the top three equities of United Bank for Africa, FBN Holdings and Guaranty Trust Holding Company, measured by volume, accounted for 389.286 million shares worth N11.757 billion in 5,372 deals.

The three equities contributed 24.96% and 32.21% to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

Prices of 35 equities appreciated during the week, higher than 20 equities in the previous week.

Fifty-one equities depreciated in price, lower than 68 in the previous week, while 68 equities remained unchanged, higher than 66 recorded in the previous week. 

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 3.79% to close the week at 105,722.78 and N57.850 trillion, respectively. (GBN)
