Abuja, Nov. 1, 2023 – President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday advised his ministers to brace up to their responsibilities or face removal from office.
He gave the charge at the opening of the 2023 Cabinet Retreat for Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries and Top Government Functionaries at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu said his administration was not oblivious to the challenges ahead, but added that there must be action plans by stakeholders to wriggle out of the problems.
Tinubu said performance was key to the success of his administration, stressing that ministers could only hold their office based on their performances which will be reviewed periodically.
He reiterated the eight goals of his administrations as food security, ending poverty, economic growth and job creation, access to capital, inclusivity: drawing on skill base, security, fairness and rule of law and anti-corruption.
He threatened to sack any of the cabinet members that failed to deliver on the specific mandate of his or her ministry.
“If you are performing, nothing to fear, if you miss the objective we review, if you don’t perform, you leave us… Don’t be a clog in the wheel of Nigeria’s progress,” said the president.
Tinubu said his Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Usman, would monitor the performance of the ministries and head of agencies, particularly in the eight priority areas of his administration.
“At the end of this retreat, you will sign a performance bond with me…You are here to help me succeed and succeed I must…I have appointed a dynamic young lady Hadiza Bala Usman as my SA on Policy Coordination.
“If you have a problem with her, come to me. If you don’t, stay where you are and work,” he said.
