Abuja, Aug.7, 2023 – The Senate screening went rowdy on Monday over a motion to stand down the nomination of Festus Kiyamo as a minister.
The disruptions during a voice vote called by the Senate President, Godwill Apbabio, on the motion eventually forced the Senate to suspend the deliberations.
Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, representing Abia Central, had moved the motion to stand down the nomination of Kiyamo when he appeared before members.
He alleged that Keyamo ignored the summons of the parliament in 2020 over an employment programme for 774,000 Nigerians recruited under a special public works programme.
Nwokocha said this was disrespectful to the 9th National Assembly and Kiyamo should not be allowed to go scot-free.
Nwokocha’s motion was seconded by Enyinnaya Abaribe from Abia-South Senatorial District.
The Senate President subjected the motion to a voice vote when the session went rowdy and the session was suspended. (GBN)
