Abuja, March 22, 2024 -The Senate has approved N549.6 billion budget for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in 2024.

The approval followed the defence of the budgetary provisions by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Aminu Maida.

The budget was approved by voice votes of members of Senate Committee on Communication after a motion by Senator Tahir Monguno (Borno North) was ratified by the Committee Chairman, Senator Ikra Aliyu (Zamfara Central).

While making his presentation, Maida had informed the lawmakers of the Commission’s decision not to impose the “sanctions against the operators” as the commission’s main source of income.

He said NCC had outlined measures to make it easier for operators to comply with its regulatory guidelines.

Maida said that he and his team were working with the country’s security agencies to provide a platform to help locate criminals easily and thus solve the country’s problems on security issues.

According to the 2023 Budget Performance Report presented by Maida, the NCC recorded actual revenue of N448.1 billion out of the projected revenue of N559.080 billion for the year ended Dec. 31, 2023.

Its total recurrent expenditure stood at N67.072 billion, while its capital expenditure was at N3.6 million during the year.   (GBN).
