Monrovia, Nov. 18, 2023 -The National Election Commission (NEC) in Liberia on Friday ordered a re-run of presidential election as none of the two contending candidates met the constitutional requirement for victory.
This is the second time the NEC would order a re-run of the presidential election.
As at the time of going to press, 99.58 percent of the votes had been declared, out of which Joseph Boaikai of UP scored 814,212 or 50.89 percent..
George Weah of the CDC scored 785,778 votes or 49.11 percent.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Weah’s CDC had gone to the Liberian high court to stop further release of the election results.
ECOWAS and other international observation missions in Liberia have intensified preventive diplomacy to douse the heightened tension in the country. (GBN)
