Abuja, July 4, 2023 – The Senate President, Senator Goodwill Akpabio, on Tuesday announced Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele( Ekiti Central) as the Senate Leader among other principal officers of the 10th Senate.Â
Akpabio also announced a Former Ebonyi Governor Senator Dave Umahi as the Deputy Senate Leader.
Senator Ali Ndume is the Chief Whip of the Senate while Senator Lola Ashiru will occupy the position of Deputy Chief Whip.
Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon (PDP – Plateau North) was also appointed as the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio also announced the appointment of Senator Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olarere – (PDP Osun West) as Deputy Minority Leader.
Other minority principal Officers announced by the Senate President include Darlington Nwokeocha (LP – Abia Central) (Minority Whip), while Senator Rufai Hanga (NNPP – Kano Central ) as Deputy Minority Whip.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the appointment of these Principal Officers at plenary on Tuesday.
Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele, popularly called MOB, was born on July 29 July 1963
He is a lawyer and human right activist, politician and member of the National Assembly representing Iyin Ekiti Central Senatorial District of Ekiti state at the Senate.
Bamidele spent his early life in Lagos where he attended Baptist Academy Secondary School for his secondary school education.
He proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies.
Bamidele later attended the University of Benin where he received a Bachelor’s degree in law in 1990.
He was called to the bar in 1992 after graduating from the Nigeria Law School.
In June 1992, he contested in the primary elections to the Federal House of Representatives representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency in Lagos State under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), but lost.
He was Special Assistant on legal matters to Senator Bola Tinubu until November 1993 when Nigeria’s democracy was truncated.
Bamidele was, he was appointed senior special assistant on political and intergovernmental relations to the Lagos State Governor in July 2000.
He was later appointed Commissioner for Youths Sports and social Development in Lagos State.
Bamidele has been in the Senate since the 7th Assembly. (GBN)
