Akure, July 31, 2023 – The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Total Energies Upstream Nigeria have donated a skills acquisition centre to Ondo State.
Mike Sangster, the Managing Director of Total Energies, said, during the inauguration in Akure, that the project was part of 84 projects planned for the six geopolitical zones.
Sangster said the project was executed as part of its corporate social responsibility projects and borne out of the need to bridge the gaps in qualitative and technical education, maternal and child health, women and youth empowerment.
Represented by Mrs. Evi Ifekwe, the Executive Director of People and Country Services, Sangster said the locations of the projects were carefully chosen based on a Needs Assessment evaluation carried out.
“As we hand over the project today, we implore you to ensure its sustainable use to impact the people positively.
“The sustainability barometer shall be seen during our Impact Assessment Exercise, when we will come back to check how this project has improved lives of the people,” he said.
Bala Wunti, the Chief Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), said the organisation would continue to champion implementation of sustainable community development projects.
“We are elated to be commissioning another laudable project. We know this facility which we said was part of 84 projects in the six geopolitical zones, will provide relief to the people.”
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Acting Governor, assured the donors that women would be major beneficiaries of the project.
Aiyedatiwa said the state government would ensure regular and constant maintenance of the project so that the purpose of the project would not be defeated.
He said the project would bring the beneficiaries out of the unemployment market and promote establishment of small-scale enterprises. (GBN)
