Nigerian Exchange trades N15.668 billion shares

Lagos, Jan. 23, 2023 – A total of 1.241 billion shares worth N15.668 billion were traded in 18,560 deals on the Nigerian Sock Exchange last week.

This was in contrast to the 1.286 billion shares valued at N29.634 billion traded in 19,816 deals in the preceding week. 

The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.010 billion shares valued at N5.924 billion traded in 9,165 deals.

These constituted 81.37 percent of the total shares traded during the week and 37.81 percent of the value.

The Conglomerates followed with 46.761 million shares worth N112.918 million traded in 641 deals.

The Consumer Goods Industry came third with 42.121 million shares worth N2.134 billion traded in 2,886 deals.

The top three equities, Veritas Kapital Assurance, Sterling Bank and Guaranty Trust Holding Company, (measured by volume), accounted for 605.879 million shares worth N2.120 billion traded in 1,631 deals.

They contributed 48.82 percent of the total shares traded and 13.53 percent of the value of shares traded during the week.

Price of 39 equities appreciated last week, lower than the 51 equities in the preceding week.

Thirty equities shed price last week, higher than the 27 in the preceding week.

Eighty-eight equities remained unchanged, higher than the 79 recorded in the preceding week.

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation appreciated by 0.16 per cent to close the week at 52,594.68 and N28.647 trillion, respectively. (GBN)
