Yauri, Dec.23, 2022 – Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, on Thursday said Nigeria was losing N1.5 trillion annually to rice importation before President Muhammadu Buhari introduced the rice revolution in 2015.
Mallami, who spoke at the kebbi South Zonal Rally of All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Yauri, said the country had since gone from mass product importation to exporting over 800 tonnes of the commodity yearly
“Before President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2015, Nigeria was spending N1.5 trillion to import rice from Thailand and other countries annually, but the rice revolution introduced by the president put an end to that.
“Today, I am happy to inform you that Nigeria no longer imports rice, instead, we export over 800 tonnes of rice annually; of course, this is a great achievement.”
Mallami listed Federal Government’s appointments to Kebbi indigenes to include Executive Director, Sokoto River Basin; Managing Director, Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC); Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) Boss and Managing Director, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA).
“Other projects include road construction from Sokoto to Kontagora, Anchor Borrower’s Programme, social welfare scheme, youth empowerment and survival funds, among others,” he said.
Mallami said that in view of these achievements, the people of Kebbi had no reason not to vote for APC at all levels.
“They should have trust in all the candidates of the party at all levels to enjoy more dividends of democracy in their respective areas,” he said
Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, thanked a former governor of the state, Sa’idu Dakingari, for accepting to be Director-General of the state campaign council.
He called on the people to elect APC candidates at all levels because of the various projects executed, listing some as the Yauri-Gidan-Zurmi Road, Koko-Dabai Road as well as electricity projects from Yauri to Zuru, among others.
On the general insecurity in the state, Bagudu said the government was doing its best to redress the trend.(GBN)
